It was founded in the l990’s as an informal group of a few Shia Muslim families of Pakistani-Indian descent living in the Inland Empire and adjacent areas to commemorate Muharram and perform other religious and cultural activities.
The Zainabia Islamic Society was incorporated as a non-profit religious corporation in the State of California on July 15 , l993 .
During the first twelve years of our existence , we were holding all of our programs at the Church of Religious Science in Claremont with whom we had established an excellent interfaith relationship based on mutual respect and understanding. Today, the Zainabia Islamic Society is housed in a 6000 square foot building on a 30,000 square foot lot in the city of Pomona, California. This building was purchased in 2005 when the membership of our society had peaked to 200 families.
